If this header picture doesn’t make it obvious enough, 2018 is going to be a year of transition here at Dust Speck.
Simply put, trying to get traction through for a blog is too arduous a task for me to justify continuing. Certainly youtube and video is a far more competitive market but that’s because there’s a much bigger install base. Trying to forge a following around a blog isn’t feasible when so many people prefer to watch a video then read a written essay. At least, it’s not going to happen at the output I’m able to churn out, once a week at the best of times, once a month at the worst is not a sustainable business model. And this site, is just too expensive for it to be a viable option, at least I won’t have to pay for my youtube channel. It’s still a few months away likely, especially since I want to create a backlog (which should be easy since I have so many scripts written on here already) but before this year ends I will be a “youtuber”. This blog will still remain up, though as the free version, and I can’t be certain I’ll still be updating this with transcripts from my videos but that’s still some time away.
As for now, there’s still a lot I want to do with the blog. First and foremost, Year in Review. Last year, my “Year in Review” posts were relegated to two top tens, “Favorite Anime” & “Favorite New Anime Characters“. Well 2017 was one of the best years for entertainment media in my opinion, anime provided two of my all-time favorites, wrestling had some great highlights, music delivered as always (there’ll always be great song if you know where to look), and video games had arguably their best year ever. So this year, Year in Review will ideally feature my top ten favorite anime, favorite video games, favorite songs, and favorite matches. Maybe a favorite wrestlers of the year too. I’m not sure I have enough to do my favorite new characters in anime since so much of what I watched were sequels but rest assured Phos from Land of the Lustrous or Nanachi from Made in Abyss would likely steal the top spot. I’ve got several matches to re-watch and songs to re-listen to, as well as games to play before I can make those list. But the main focus for January is to get those four lists done.
Outside of that, before I switch to Youtube I just want to finish Samurai Jack season 1. I finished Steven Universe’s season four last year, and while season five shows a marked improvement in quality, this site is still 70% Steven Universe and I’d like to branch out a bit more. My main focus aside from the lists will be Samurai Jack, with a dash of Wolf’s Rain thrown in there maybe. I wouldn’t expect Steven Universe content to come back on here for the next two months at least.
That’s really all I have to say this year. Last year I filled this post with a list of several of my new year’s resolutions, most of which failed. So rather than doing that again, I’ve decided just talking out about my base plans was a better, and quicker route to go. 2018 should be a real banner year for me, here’s to hoping all goes well.
